About the school

Programs for extracurricular activities for 2nd grade

Within the frames of the project: Integrated bilingual primary school (IBPS), besides realization of the regular educational process in Macedonian and Albanian language, there are everyday afterschool bilingual activities (of informal type).

The planning and realization of those activities is done by 2 class teachers – one Macedonian and one Albanian, who are working at the same time with all students from both 1st class grades, i.e. 12 Macedonians, 11 Albanians and 1 Roma.

Owing to the bilingual approach, i.e. the rephrasing, there are everyday joint afterschool activities. These activities are of a different type. NDC Skopje has prepared 5 annual programs for afterschool activities within the frames of the:

Section for young researchers

Section for acting

Section for traffic

Section for mathematics

Section for art.

The “game approach” dominates in those activities and at the same time the team and tandem work of the children are being promoted.

The duration of the informal bilingual activities is 2 school classes, which are being realized in one classroom, right after the end of the regular curricular process during all 5 working days.

Main goals of the bilingual afterschool activities:

Intensifying constructive collaborative relations between the children from the Macedonian and Albanian ethnic communities,

Developing a sense in the students about respecting their mutual differences,

Overcoming the stereotypes and prejudices of the children related to their ethnic and cultural background,

Preparing the students for constructive resolution of conflict situations in the group,

Developing a positive emotional climate in the group with heterogeneous ethnic structure with the aim of maintaining high index of group cohesion,

Expanding the active vocabulary of the students with terminology and cultural-social phrases from the non-native language,
